A progressive exploration of the botanical heritage of our isle of Islay.
22 hand-foraged local botanicals delicately augment nine berries, barks, seeds and peels during an achingly slow distillation. The first Islay dry gin is a rare expression of the heart and soul of our remote Scottish island. The long and complex process of creating The Botanist, from foraging the island botanicals, to distilling the spirit to bottling leads to a gin of incredible complexity, depth and flavour. The Botanist’s rich, smooth and delicate flavours make it one of the most versatile gins in the world.
We humans need wild. It speaks to our soul. To create The Botanist Gin, we reached for the wild. Our inspiration comes from the Isle of Islay, our fertile, Hebridean home on Scotland’s west coast.
Foraged
The 22 are our contribution. They speak of our place, of our seasons, of our spirit. The Botanist is a manifestation of our island home, inspired by the people, the landscapes and the flora of Islay.
Distilled
A slow simmer distillation unfolds in a uniquely modified still. Like our 22 island botanicals, this still was “foraged” from the old Inverleven distillery in Dumbarton, Scotland and brought to Islay on a barge.
In season now
We hand forage our 22 botanicals on Islay from March to September, working with each ingredient's own seasonality to ensure that only the most flavourful botanicals make it into our gin. Sustainably sourced, we will never take too much from nature's bounty.
